Your Local Candidate - Passionate, Experienced & Hard-working
As Deputy Leader of South Cambs since 2018, Aidan has worked to give the residents of the district a greener and fairer future. He has led campaigns for sustainable transport, especially for high-quality cycling and walking routes. Aidan successfully lobbied government to get the new East West Rail line to serve Cambourne. He organised a campaign to get South Cambs to welcome Syrian refugees, which we are now able to do having taken control of the council. He has advocated for more affordable housing in villages and in new developments.
Aidan currently chairs the Greater Cambridge Partnership, leading cross-party working to create sustainable growth in Cambridgeshire. Under his leadership, the GCP ran a citizens assembly looking at how to solve the regions transport problems. He has ensured that zero carbon targets are now fully part of GCP policy and that there is a solid evidence base for a radical transformation of Greater Cambridge’s transport system. He has approved the ambitious Greenways project that will create a network of cycleways in the countryside around Cambridge.
Over the last five years, Aidan has led the electoral successes of the South Cambridgeshire Lib Dems, taking control of South Cambridgeshire District Council in 2018 and then coming within 2,900 votes of getting a Lib Dem MP in South Cambs. Aidan won his council seat from the Tories at a by-election in 2013. He stood in the 2017 General Election in Suffolk.
Aidan grew up in Huntingdonshire, attending Great Gidding primary school and then a comprehensive secondary. He studied political history in London and Paris. He now lives in South Cambs with his wife and two children. Aidan has worked in teaching, in publishing and in financial services. Most recently, he managed the UK office of Lucy Nethsingha MEP, working to demonstrate the benefits of EU membership.
